Richmond Select Board Approves Amended Boulder Dash Permit, Cuts Music to Four Days a Week

RICHMOND — February 24, 2021 — Richmond's Select Board unanimously approved an amended special permit for Boulder Dash Sellers, a farm events venue on Richmond Pond, limiting outdoor amplified music to Thursday through Sunday and banning drums, electric guitars, bass guitars, and horns from the property entirely. The vote came after a continued public hearing in which Myles Garfinkel, speaking for 28 Richmond Shores and Colonial Acres residents, argued that a February 11 draft had quietly stripped key protections from an earlier version, including an explicit instrument ban and stricter hours. Select Board member Neil Pilsen brokered the compromise, noting the permit retains a mid-course correction mechanism and annual review. Venue owner Christian Hanson said he could accept the four-day-per-week exterior music limit, and town attorney Elizabeth Goodman confirmed the restored instrument ban language would read: "Drums, bass guitars, electric guitars, and horns shall not be permitted to be played on the property at any time."
